There are 9 species of Caimans, and most of them can be found in South America and close-lying islands. There used to be many of them in the 1920s, but the popularity of their hides has drastically reduced their population. Caimans can be found in lakes, rivers, creeks or coastal swamps. Species vary in size, appearance and behavior; some species reach 240 cm (males) and 170 cm (females) in length.
