A desert iguana photo shows it to be much smaller than pictures of other varieties. These creatures tolerate extreme heat, but cannot stand cold weather because they are cold-blooded. Being omnivorous, they eat flowers and leaves and occasionally catch insects. These reptiles are not endangered, because they have little predators and live in remote areas. These lizards are large, with a long tail, small head and sturdy legs. The body length without the tail is about 6 inches; the tail is 1.5 times longer. The skin color is light sand with dark bands and stripes. A large crest is situated along the center of the back and diminishes on the tail. A desert iguana photo shows it to be much smaller than pictures of other varieties.
