Gila Monster Facts

The Heloderma suspectum and the Mexican Beaded lizard (Heloderma horridum) are two known venomous lizards. The Gila Monster has a venomous gland in its lower jaw that produces a nerve toxin. The animal’s venom may kill small mammal, and is not fatal to humans.

These lizards occur in pink to orange, and there are dark bands on the body and tail. These lizards live in underground burrows, and females bury their eggs 5 inches deep in the ground.
