Unlike many other lizards, chamaeleo calyptratus is likely to consume vegetable matter in their diet. Therefore, placing live plants in the reptile’s enclosure is highly recommended. Do not house more than one lizard per enclosure. These are territorial and solitary animals.

Chamaeleo calyptratus is a popular captive bred exotic pet. Large and attractive reptiles, they are, nevertheless, high maintenance pets and require a knowledgeable keeper. These reptiles are native to southern Saudi Arabia and Yemen. The species is tolerant of temperature and humidity extremes.
